Quest Hotel

Christchurch

Park Lane Hotel Investments engaged Walker Architecture to develop a proposal to rejuvenate the existing 1980’s structure with a contemporary to suit the demands of a new 96 bed Quest Hotel.

Having been unoccupied since the 2011 earthquake event the existing 7-storey office building presented an exciting opportunity for a new hotel in the centre of Christchurch adjacent to the banks of the Avon river. All existing non-structural concrete elements were removed to allow the transformation of the existing building with a new contemporary skin.

From the outset there was a clear understanding of the client’s intention to use a glazed curtain wall system combined with printed glass technology. The focus of the proposal therefore was to ensure both glazing modules and printed treatments offered context and longevity. The overall intent was to create a building of distinction which relates to the greater context of its environment. The proposal utilises the Building’s new façade as a canvas to apply a contextual art form which is representational of surrounding micro and macro environments
